Electric Toothbrushes: Not a Gimmick After All
By Jay Pinion
For years, I thought electric toothbrushes were just a gimmick—yet another useless piece of electronics fueling the fire of global consumerism.
Several dentists had mentioned during checkups that I should be using one. But come on, surely I was doing a better job than some buzzing electric brush? I just couldn’t bring myself to believe that a rotating bit of plastic could outdo me manually.
Well… how wrong I was.
My electric toothbrush is excellent. I have the Oral-B Pro 3500, and it’s made a big difference.
For years, I struggled to clean the very back molars on my upper teeth—there was always a stubborn layer of plaque “fur” that took ages to scrub off. Now, the electric toothbrush takes care of it effortlessly. My teeth feel cleaner, for longer.
Yes, they’re expensive pieces of kit—but in my opinion, well worth the money.
So, what are the takeaways?
Drop the cynicism. Health experts are generally looking out for your best interests, and not everyone is trying to sell you something.
More “gimmicky” things I probably need to test:
- Any kind of face cream:
What are women paying for, exactly? I never use skin cream and rarely have issues with my skin. The only time I really need it is when it’s around zero in winter and the backs of my hands start to crack.
